Settings

Settings are optional

We have taken a ‘flavor light’ approach with regards to SSRPG. Our intention is for you to be able to easily create your own settings using this system as a framework. Because of that, there is no one “canon” setting, much like Dungeons and Dragons, SSRPG only has a general setting of “Magic and Technology in Space, why not?”. If you want something beyond that, you’re going to need to take a look at one of our settings modules, or come up with your own.

What does it take to build a Setting

Honestly the amount of work is either infinite, or trivial. (Really, it’s a bit of both.) You can get as specific and crazy as you want, simply keeping the core rules, but replacing all our classes and equipment with your own. Or, you can simply do a little but of world building and create a simple setting that’s just D&D in space. Both are equally valid, and we really try to make both viable options.

If you’d like to see a fleshed out setting that adds its own races, but keeps to the core of SSRPG, check out the Zodiac Setting.

If, instead, you’d like to see a complete flavor swap, dropping most of the magic and going far more sci-fi, check out the Freelancers Setting.
